It is precisely through automation that digitalization promotes the human need for authenticity – for example the phenomenon of selfies or instagram. My painting attempts to address this tension between objectivity and individuality by converting digitally processed images with oil on canvas. Using algorithms of image processing programs, parts of the picture are automatically shifted, reassembled and digitally distorted without human intervention. The artist is no longer the originator of the pictorial idea, but artificial intelligence creates its own digital pictorial reality. In this process I am interested in errors or shifts in which the algorithm tries to put the image parts together harmoniously. The painterly return of digital information into the physical, real world fascinates me
